History
Ba'quba's history show at least 2,000 years of continuous inhabitation. In ancient times, it was an important stop on the trading route between Baghdad and Khorasan, carrying silk and spices.
1999 July: Clashes, with many killed, between the Special Republican Guard (see Iraq: Defence) under the leadership of Qusay, son of Saddam Hussein, and officers who were accused of cooperating with Iran or Iranian-backed groups.
